MIWRC

JOB DESCRIPTION


POSITION PURPOSE: The Minnesota Indian Women’s Resource Center (MIWRC), a twenty four year old social service non-profit serving American Indian women and children in Minneapolis, seeks a contract consultant to help develop a dual diagnosis treatment program for American Indian women that incorporates a sexual trauma intervention. This is a one year grant funded position focused on researching best options in co-occurring disorder treatment models for American Indian women, and utilizing the findings to develop an effective treatment model addressing the core issues of substance abuse, mental health, and gender violence in the target population. The outcome will be identification and adaptation of the appropriate model, and development of a sustainable business plan to implement the program.


REPORTS TO: Executive Director


Primary Duties:

  • Maintain communication with advisory group of American Indian Elders, professionals, and community members,
  • Research best practices and model programs as related to co-occurring disorders and American Indian families,
  • Conduct extensive literature review of existing models and promising practices that incorporate chemical dependency, mental illness and sexual trauma,
  • Organize and facilitate focus groups on both reservations and urban areas to clarify community needs,
  • Identify appropriate curriculum and make recommendations for pilot program,
  • Adapt selected model program to fit needs of target population,
  • In partnership with MIWRC executive director, conduct an organizational assessment review of MIWRC’s capacity to effectively deliver selected model,
  • In partnership with MIWRC executive director, write a business/sustainability plan for implementation, including staffing recommendations and Rule 31 compliance action steps for pilot program implementation.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • B.A. degree required; graduate degree in social work, chemical dependency, or related field strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of or experience working in dual diagnosis and sexual trauma fields required.
  • Must possess excellent research skills.
  • Knowledge of funding sources and billing requirements for MI/CD programs desirable.
  • Experience in curriculum development and/or adaptation preferred.
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills in project planning and program development.
  • Knowledgeable of computer software programs:
  • Experience and detailed understanding of issues impacting American Indian community and women’s issues.
  • Must have no current problems related to alcohol or drug use
  • Must be willing to submit to DHS Rule #3, Criminal Background Study
  • Must have valid driver’s license, satisfactory driving record and automobile.
